Programmed into the Brother SE400 are 70 embroidery patterns you can access at any time along with five fonts of letters, numbers, and characters.

The embroidery frame size for this sewing machine is 4x4.  It’s as easy to use as attaching the embroidery unit, selecting your pattern and following the directions on the screen for changing thread color.  The brightly lit, LCD screen will keep you posted on the rate of completion as you work through the design.

These embroidery patterns include animal scenes, flowers, birds, plants and other pretty designs.

You can also outline your pattern using 10 frame patterns such as a square outline or a circle outline.  There are 12 stitch options for these frames so the outline doesn’t have to be done in just a plain, straight stitch.

There are two ways that you can expand your library of embroidery patterns using the Brother SE400.

USB Port

Brother originally produced the SE350 combination sewing and embroidery machine but added the USB port to it and renamed it the SE400 so that users could more easily add new patterns through their computer.

You do not need any special software to add new patterns. Simply find .ped designs online (sometimes you have to pay for these), add them to your computer, and access them from your sewing machine by attaching the sewing machine and computer with the USB cable.

The sewing machine itself has some blank memory space so that you can store 12 of those new patterns on the machine and access them later without being connected to your computer.

Brother SE400 Reader Card

There is also an embroidery reader card slot in the side of the Brother SE400 so you can purchase available memory cards with 4x4 design patterns, put the card in the slot, and have access to a ton of new patterns that suit your particular project.
